Philips P2000B / P2500

A Philips business computer running CP/M or UCSD/P.

I happen to own three systems and some loose extra hardware.
From what I gather, the P2000B and P2500 are technically the same machines - just the name changed over its lifespan.

Here are some photos of various cards, ROM dumps, disk images and some manuals.
My plan is to add more functional information, tooling, etc to this page eventually.
Power supply photos are still missing.

I'm still lacking a field service guide for this system, a SESAM- and BASIC-cartridge, or working UCSD p-System disk images. If you have one of those things, please contact me!

P2500 system

I have one system specifically called 'P2500' on the case; here's a list of hardware that's in it, with pictures and ROM dumps.

P2500 Backplane

4-slot backplane carrying the P2500 system bus, the main power-supply connector and a shared security/cartridge (SESAM) connector that connects to a chassis-mounted slot.
Two chassis-mounted TO-220 regulators use the case itself as a heatsink.

P2500 Video Card

MC6845P display controller, 12x MB8116E 12Kbit DRAM (8-bit character code + 4-bit attribute nibble?), 4KB Intel D2732-6 character ROM.
This one seemingly has had some modifications.

NEC D765C-based.
Seemingly older version of the other floppy controller.

Loose cards

These cards were part of a haul of computers. I don't know their history, but they're clearly also P2000B/P2500 cards.

P2500 Fixed Disc Card

Loose card of unknown origin picked up in a bulk purchase.
Has very pronounced clip-on test points soldered in line with most data lines, but lacks the usual top edge connector.
Bears hand-written markings with black marker 'P2500 FXD Controller' and on the back 'ƒ10,-', indicating that it was perhaps sold 2nd hand for 10 Dutch Guilders at some point.
Check the rotated image for readable ICs.

Disk Images

ImageDisk (.IMD) captures, all confirmed to be complete (also included in .raw-format with the emulator linked above) and extract cleanly with cpmtools.
From the same source came also some UCSD p-System disk images, however those turned out to be captured wrongly (at 48 TPI) and are missing every other track of data.

P25K_B.IMD: minimal (bootable) CP/M 2.2 disk, just the system BIOS files, PIP.COM and SYSGEN.COM.
P25K_S.IMD: a (bootable) used SuperCalc2 working disk, with someones spreadsheet data included.
P25TEST.IMD: a (bootable) disk containing various software development utilities.
P2500GAM.IMD: a (non-bootable) disk containing some BASIC games (not all working) and an unrelated Assembly code file for another system.

Capturing disk images

If you have disks that you want to capture the best options are:

Capture raw flux (for example using a GreaseWeazle)
Using SAMdisk:
- Combined with SuperCard Pro, KryoFlux, or DiscFerret hardware (Windows, Linux and macOS)
- Or Windows only requiring the fdrawcmd.sys kernel driver and a µPD765a (or compatible) floppy disk controller (on-board or ISA card - see The Retro Web)
Using ImageDisk on DOS and a µPD765a (or compatible) floppy disk controller (on-board or ISA card - see The Retro Web).

Disk format is either 96 TPI, single-sided, 77 tracks used (80 physical), 16 sectors/track, 256 B/sector or the same layout dual-sided (rare).
